Working for a game of Cricket in the Town of Shelburne and in Dufferin County to create opportunities for Cricket lovers to grow the game of Cricket in Shelburne and its surrounding areas.
SCC was inaugurated in 1893 but slowly faded away. Cricket in Shelburne was revived & founded again in 2019 with limited players participating from Shelburne & Dufferin County. The cricket community in Shelburne showed a growth trajectory over the last few years. SCC cricket season starts from May a ends in October.
A resident of Shelburne since 2015 and has been playing as an all-rounder in different cricket leagues and tournaments in Ontario and abroad for many years. Ahsen decided to introduce the game of cricket in the Town of Shelburne and in Dufferin County to attract the youth. As well, amplify the diversity and multiculturism of Shelburne and Dufferin County. He is also one of the founding members of SCC.
From St. James Jamaica, Creg went to high school in Jamaica just across from the National Cricket stadium named Sabina Park and just fell in love with cricket. Although, Creg finally started to play cricket at a later age. With the help of the executive team and fellow team members, he wants to grow the sport starting in his city, Shelburne. He is looking forward to that challenge.
Maira Quraishi is a stay-at-home mom to three boys and an entrepreneur . Her love for cricket was increased and developed after she saw the interest her kids were taking in cricket. As there was no place in the Dufferin County to play cricket, she teamed up with Ahsen Siddiqui to start and develop the Shelburne Cricket Club to offer another sport in the county. She works to encourage and promote all genders to play cricket especially women. She thinks that women inclusion is very important both on and off the field.
Raised in Toronto but originally from Hyderabad, India. Zaid has always wanted to play cricket for as long as he can remember. His opportunity for playing cricket in Shelburne which has allowed him to fall in love with the sport even more. He has spent majority of his time watching cricket, but thinks that playing cricket is a whole different experience. There is so much detail to pay attention to and every time he steps off the ground, he learns something new. He believes cricket is a sport for everyone.
Having grown up in the Indian subcontinent mainly Anang always played cricket in school and later was the cricket team captain in his medical college where he did extremely well.
He has always been very passionate about cricket and wanted to instill the same in his children/family. Anang moved to Canada in 2013 after having worked in Mauritius for more than 10 years as a medical practitioner and was looking for some way to still be involved in Cricket.
"The Shelburne Cricket Club gave me a great opportunity to fulfill this desire and I got to meet great people, whom I call my second family! This year I feel humbled to be given the opportunity to be a part of the management of the SCC. I hope we keep moving forward positively and become a part of the cricket explosion in Canada."
Since childhood Naziya felt cricket was a boring game but her Husband is a diehard cricket player. Naziya moved in this community two years back. She started following Shelburne cricket club's tournaments and leagues with her husband. That developed her interest in cricket. As a result of which she played in women’s cricket last year. After following SCC leagues and events for two years she decided to be a part of the club's management.
" SCC is not just about cricket it’s about community and family gathering, events and much more. I have made all my Shelburne friends just because of SCC. Very excited to contribute as an event coordinator in the club and organize SCC's glamorous events"
